Flyy Girl Friday Feature: Candice VanWye

When I first got into blogging, I was basically figuring it all out as I went along. The more I begin to understand how the virtual world of writing flows, the more I begin to happen upon other bloggers who have been influential in paving the way for beginner and season bloggers.

Brown Girl Bloggers is a community for women of color to connect and exchange their successes and their not so successful moments in blogging.

The woman behind this awesome community, just happens to be our

Flyy Girl Feature!

I am super excited to introduce to some and present to others,

Ms. Candice VanWye

Hi, please introduce yourself to the readers:CandiceV1

Candice VanWye, San Diego, CA
Tell us about your blog site:
I’m the founder and editor of which was created to promote, encourage and connect minority women who blog. I also blog about my life and entrepreneurship on my self titled blog and I’m editor of a lifestyle blog
Why did you begin blogging?
I originally started blogging on my personal blog to share my journey as an entrepreneur. I started Brown Girl Bloggers because I found it hard to connect with other minority women bloggers. I was meeting a ton of bloggers but I didn’t have a lot in common with them. I wanted to connect with women like myself and I also wanted to build a community since it seems that Brown Girls are rarely applauded in the blogosphere. I wanted to create a space where we would be featured and promoted.
BGB Front Page
What motivates you to dedicate time to blogging?
At first my motivation was purely internal. I set goals and I worked towards them because I wanted to see success. Now that people are noticing me, my motivation comes from my community. I’m always motivated by women who say my blogs help them and those who ask for my advice. I love it when I see women making real connections because of something I built.
In one year, what do you hope manifests from your blogging?
In one year I hope to be hosting live events, I hope to be planning the first Brown Girl Blogger’s Conference, I hope to have an e-course to help bloggers and business owners on their journey and I hope to have some type of mentorship program in place for college students. Additionally, I hope that my blog creates amazing relationships between women.
Name two of your favorite bloggers you follow.
Two of my favorite bloggers are Drea of and Tyece of They both write so well and I can usually relate to their blog posts.
What legacy do you want to leave behind for others to know about you?
I hope I’m seen as a very smart and resourceful woman. Someone who is kind and thinks of others. I of course want to see Brown Girl Bloggers grow as much as it possibly can. I hope I help Brown Girls stay inspired and that they get more blogging opportunities because of me.

Short Story: Difficult to Satisfy

Hi my peeps! I hope you are enjoying your Wednesday. Earlier this year I shared that I am embarking upon the journey of writing my first book and sometimes I come across characters who do not necessarily fit the particular book I am writing, but I still like to give them the opportunity to be known. If you could be so gracious as to leave a comment, like or share about the following, I would most appreciate it. I am always looking to grow in my writing, so do not be afraid to tell me what you think.

Peace and Blessings!

One. Two. Three. She picks up the phone, clicks settings and scrolls down to the “blocked calls” finds his number and swipes left to call.

It is officially his birthday. She had waited for him to reach out to her and invite her to whatever he had going on, he was known for throwing a fabulous party. Plenty to eat and drink and the music was always on point. The phone buzzed in her ear as it rang.

She started to hang up on the fourth ring, but Clinton’s voice came over the receiver. Hello? Who is this?

Kerra did a quick look at the phone as she pulled it away from her ear to check that she had in fact called Clinton. She had. His voice was deeper and heavier than she expected

Clint, its Kerra. I wasn’t expecting to catch you asleep, its kinda early for you isn’t it? She knew she had taken a chance calling him after almost a year and a half of no contact. So many things had changed in that time period. She had thought at the time there was more out there for her….now she wasn’t so sure.

His intense and steady silence made small beads of sweat drip down the small of her back. All of a sudden she felt hot and nervous.

Clinton? She whispered into the phone.

I’m here. I’m just, just trying to get my barings together. I mean, I wasn’t expecting to hear…this is a surprise. He finished.

Listen, I won’t keep you long. I remembered today is your birthday and I , I wanted to be the first to wish you a special one. She sighed deeply, And I am not sure if you know, but Dorien and I..

I know about you and D. Kerra, it’s late and I have a lot to do later on for the party. If you’d like, I can send over and evite and maybe you and Carla can swing through later?

It was a start, she would take it. Yeah, I would like that. Maybe once everything calms down, we can talk?

Yeah, maybe we can. Clinton breathed easily back into the phone. It’s good to hear your voice Kerra. Is the email the same?

Yes, it is.

Cool. I will send it over shortly.

Kerra watched the screen fade to black as she placed her phone back on its charger before laying back against the cool satin pillows stacked strategically across the top of her bed. She focused her thoughts on the raindrops that clung to the large floor to ceiling windows of her condo, and then watched as the drops slid slowly downward.

She couldn’t help but wonder if she were like those raindrops. Clinging to things and people who could not hold on to her, allowing her to fall downward to her demise. She sighed deeply. But not Clinton, never Clinton. He had always been someone real she could go to, no matter what.

Even after she broke his heart and refused his proposal of them moving beyond just being friends; he was still there, he never wavered. Even after she told him she was not ready for a relationship, however; two weeks later had begun a serious romance with Dorien; he gave her his blessing.

Kerra didn’t know if she were coming back to Clinton because she needed him to validate her, or she needed him to love her. Either way, she knew she needed his essence again; the kind of essence that assured her she could step out and fly.

She just hoped that had not changed.

She hoped.

Regret is the result of not listening to your instincts.

Always trust your energy when it washes over your body like a protectant, attempting to shield you from poor judgment.

Know yourself to know that you are in complete control of your life. No one should want you to relinquish the reigns of your journey.

If people or a person can only see you for what they want you to be, how will they cope once who you are is inevitability before them?

*you can’t hide from me….said me*

And what is more important?
The dream you they envision or the dream you are not living?

Regret is the result of wrong decisions.

Flyy Girl Friday Feature: Amber-Janae

Happy Friday everyone and welcome back for this week’s Flyy Girl Friday Feature.

Today we celebrate a writer who bares her self to her readers.

Whether she gives blogging advice or heart to hearts, or some good girl talk,

her blog is like chicken soup for the soul.

Ladies and Gents,

Welcome! Please introduce yourself to the readers.AmberJanae3

Amber-Janae from San Francisco (Bay Area) California.

Tell us about your blog,

I’ve have never learned how to classify I just say it’s one of those blogs that feeds your soul and inspires you to be better.

Why did you begin blogging?

I started blogging to free my mind and spirit of all the situations from my past. I wanted to inspire other women. More importantly, when I had begun to learn that my struggles and stories were inspiring other women I couldn’t give up on them. It fueled my fire to continue blogging.

What motivates you to dedicate time to your blog?

There is so much that motivates me to dedicate time to blogging. The number one reason being my readers and supporters. I truly believe that without their honest love and support, I wouldn’t be as motivated as I am every day. There’s always a special comment and tweet that goes a long way and inspires me to keep pushing. I am always thinking toward the future; another reason that keeps me motivated. I’ve had a vision of what I’d like to see my blog develop into for years and now that I have the platform to make that happen I am motivated not to give up. There are times when I want to give up on blogging, but I always look at how far I have come. I have come too far to give up.

In one year, what do you hope manifests from your blogging?

In one year I hope to be more socially connected than I presently am as far as the blog goes. I’d like to see the audience grow and continue to inspire more women around the world to be a better version of themselves. A bigger platform for me to live in purpose and chase my destiny is what I am claiming to manifest in this New Year. I would also love to see me step out the norm and incorporate a variety of content into the blog. I’d like to add more of my outgoing, fun personality to the blog and not have it be serious 24/7. I would love the strength and consistency to produce more books and other written projects. Overall I just want to see my work ethic grow. A lot can happen in a year and I just pray that everything I desire and more comes to fruition.

GG Rene of All the Many Layers has to be one of my all-time favorite bloggers. Her whole style and approach makes everything about her relatable. GG’s writing style is honest and captivating. Always full of love and light and sending constant reminders to be a better version of myself. I love her! Demetria Lucas of A Belle from Brooklyn is another one of my favorites. She just embodies the skill set of how to take your brand to new levels. She’s built a brand, set the bar, and created a platform that has essentially paved the way for all of us upcoming bloggers and authors.

What legacy do you want to leave behind for others to know about you?

A legacy is something profound, something that really has no limits or boundaries. I pray to leave behind words of encouragement and love. I think there are so many misconceptions about who you truly are when choosing to put yourself out there into the public as a blogger, author etc. It’s hard for others to see who you truly are outside of what you choose to share. I’d like for my legacy to be something serious. For people to be able to speak of me and remember that I was a fighter, not just for myself, but for others. That my huge, loving heart and genuine spirits has taken many beatings, but I’ve always found a way to give back to others. I’d like for the world to remember me as a true lover of my life and all the woman I am. It’s hard to say more of what my legacy to be because there is so much that has yet to unfold. I know in my spirit my legacy will be a great one.

HeyGirlHey!!! Poll of the Day

Okay, we had the discussion about men and women being just friends, now let us have the discussion about can we remain friends once we fall in love?

I hear men saying that they could not date a woman who’s best friend is a guy; most men that I have spoken with, believe it is not the woman they do not trust, it is the man.

Apparently men seem to think men only want one thing….le panties.

And guys, I shall not overlook you. I know women who are non too pleased with their man having a best girl friend…they wanna pull a coup and thrust her out the picture.

In all situations, are we wrong for thinking men only have male friends and women only have female friends? And if you say yes, then how does one handle their spouse being cool with a lot of people who are the opposite sex?

Do we befriend them as well or trust that it is just friendship?

I have my own opinions, but I’d much rather hear and read yours! Tell me what you think, let’s discuss.

HeyGirlHey!!! Is it Flyy Girl Friday Yet?

This Friday one of my bloggers I follow, Amber Janae, will be featured for this week’s feature!

And while I was putting together the feature, I had the thought that this would be my last week as a twenty something. Come this Sunday, I will officially be 30…and while I am extremely happy…I am somewhat side eying the whole new horizon…better come with a salary upgrade, because I am in need! lol

Well, with that being said, here is to another wonderful Flyy Girl Friday Feature. May the work I do now, make a way in the end.

See you guys Friday! Here for Flyy Girl Feature, only on HeyGirlHey!!!

Flyy Girl Friday Feature: Chrissie

Hello readers and welcome back for another edition of

Flyy Girl Friday Feature!

Today focuses on a lady who is all about the pretty positivity!

Step into a world of good vibes and warm smiles.

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome

Hi Chrissie, please introduce yourself:ChrissieW2

Hi! I am Chrissie, but my friends call me Chris for short. I was born and raised in North Carolina, but currently residing in Maryland, outside of Baltimore.

Please tell us about your blog, ForeverPretty08:

My site is, and it is pretty much about everything that comes to mind that I am passionate about. I love fashion, beauty, traveling, cooking, discussing motherhood, fitness, natural hair care, relationships & marriage and God. You can find a post about those things and more! One thing I am learning, is to speak truth and light to others, so all of my posts, whether it is a product review or an inspirational post, I promise to be honest and real with everyone. I also have a YouTube channel, where I post in video form. My channel is ForeverPretty08.

Why did you begin blogging?

I actually started blogging back in 2000, during my 9th grade year. I didn’t have close friends or anyone who I could talk with regarding what was on my mind. That blog was my outlet to sharing my thoughts.  Now that blogging has become so popular, and more people are turning to blogging as a means of communication, I hope my thoughts can touch someone who may be going through or experiencing the same thoughts or things as me.ChrissieW1

What motivates you to dedicate time to blogging?

I think what motivates me is knowing that I have the time and ability to do it full-time now. I am a Stay At Home Mom and when my child is asleep in the day or night, I go to my computer to write and improve my blog. Before when I was working, in school, traveling and doing everything else, I didn’t have much time to blog or take it seriously. Now that I have more time, I am able to write and improve my blog. I believe it is what I have been called to do.

Furthermore, I hope to connect and collaborate with people and businesses down the line, once my blog becomes famous lol!

In one year, what do you hope manifests from your blogging?

Well, besides connecting and collaborating, I want to meet others who like me, enjoy blogging because it is something our hearts desire! Also, I would like to increase my subscriber base. I am praying that will change this year.

Name two of your favorite bloggers you follow:

I love Shirley B. Eniang of Shirley’s Wardrobe. She is a UK-based beauty blogger and she is AMAZING! Y’all need to check her out. I also like Heather Lindsey’s blog. She takes her walk with Jesus serious and I admire her for that; because a lot of us are influenced by worldly things, that we miss the blessings and new life we could have or live, if we were living for Christ. Her testimony is so inspirational and I can relate in so many ways. She helped me get through my single stage and has helped me become closer to Christ. Y’all should check her out as well!

What legacy do you want to leave behind for others to know about you?

I hope that my blog can help and inspire someone in some way. Whether it be from my favorite lipstick, to helping you get through a life struggle. I hope that something I post may be a light to someone who may be misguided, misinformed or simply unaware. I am human like everyone else, so I can relate to a lot of things in life. I know my readers will be inspired and hopefully I will be someone’s “Friend in their head.”

Flyy Girl Friday Feature: Lisa W. Tetting

HeyGirlHey!!! Honey child, do we have a special feature for you!

Starting off the re-launch of Flyy Girl Friday,

is fellow blogger and a up & coming author.

Her personality is colorful and her focus is undeniable,

get to know the woman behind the screen.

Ladies and Gents,

Lisa W. Tetting

Blogger & Author

Hi, tell the readers your name and location.

Lisa W. Tetting in Tampa, FL

What is your blog about?

As an up and coming author, RebirthofLisa is my brainchild. There you will find my inner thoughts and lessons I have learned about life, love and the world. I express myself through my writing, poetry and photography. I am open and honest and though I may offend some, my intent is only to tell my truth. Topics will vary depending on what is on my brain at the moment and I try to infuse a little humor along the way.

Why did you begin blogging?

After searching for the Who, What, When, and Where most of my life, I finally found the courage to start writing for others to read. As you can imagine, this was a scary undertaking in my forties….but, I have learned to have no fear! Or at least to appear as if I don’t.

What motivates you to dedicate time to blogging?

I don’t believe I need any motivation to dedicate my time to blogging. Writing is a passion of mine that I finally decided to pursue. Once the door was opened, I had no choice but to step out into the world! It was one of my dreams to become a writer, and I am making it come true every day. I finally gave myself permission to be happy!

In one year, what do you hope manifests from your blogging?

In a year’s time, I hope to reach over 1000 people with my musings. I hope to secure a freelance career in writing and be able to make a living doing what I love. One thing I do not want is to be place in a box. I lived over forty years in one, and will never go back!

Name two of your favorite bloggers you follow.

Two of my favorite bloggers that I follow are 1) Colleen ( She has the gift of making each of her followers feel special. Colleen takes time to befriend her readers and I love that! She also has a wonderful Fairy Series that I enjoy reading. 2) Nadine ( because her blog is great! When she stumbled across my blog, she made comments right away, which sparked my curiosity. After reading her blog, I found we share some things in common; favorite authors and a love for the Caribbean. Though I have never met her, she seems very familiar to me; maybe we met in another life….

What legacy do you want to leave behind for others to know about you?

The legacy I want to leave behind is that of a constant desire to learn, having an open mind and spreading love through my writings. If I can touch the hearts of my readers, and cause them to seek commonality in people who do not share the same ideals, then I have done my job.

Don’t miss this Friday’s Flyy Girl Feature

Fellow bloggers will be featured the next several months to display who is the woman behind the thoughts and what is the message she wants the world to know.

First up is Lisa W. Tetting of RebirthofLisa

A talented and spunky woman with the focus of a champion!

You don’t want to miss the first Flyy Girl of 2015, do you?

Nah, I didn’t think so!
