Flyy Girl Feature Friday is starting off the summer with a bubbly Brown Blogger,
who seems to have a great infinity for all things media related.
Her blog is a continuous slideshow of music, books, trendy topics and bright fun photography.
I would like to think she leads an exciting life full of adventure and tons of stories to share.
So find your happy place and prepare to meet a lady who has her
hand on the pulse of what is new and now, oh yeah and she is preparing to say “I do!”
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please introduce yourself to the readers.
Hi everyone! I am Brittany from San Antonio, TX.
Tell us a little about your blog, Your Friend Brittany.
The idea behind Your Friend, Brittany was that I wanted a place to share my thoughts, feeling and opinions. I wanted a place to come and talk about things going on in my life as well as things happening around me and I wanted to be able to share that with people who may be interested. My hope was that I’d not only share my experiences and feelings in a way that was fun, truthful, and interesting to others but that it would also spark a bit of conversation with my readers and that the conversation would flow organically like a group of friends; hence the name of the blog.
Why did you begin blogging?
I started blogging back in 2011 because a few people told me they thought I should. I was forever ranting about something and it seemed like a good outlet. I was a bit all over the place with that first blog and eventually transitioned it into a Tumblr blog back in 2013. I ended up taking a break in 2014 from writing, Twitter, and most social media and transitioned my Tumblr blog into a fashion/street style blog only, but at the beginning of 2015 I got the itch to blog again. I started Your Friend, Brittany because I honestly enjoy blogging; I like the community aspect of it and like having a place to get your thoughts and feelings out. I found myself really missing lifestyle blogging so I came back.
What motivates you to dedicate time to blogging?
One thing that motivates me is that I enjoy blogging. I find it fun to have an idea and then to try and think about whether or not that can work as a blog post. I also tend to do a lo oft my blog posts in one chunk of time and then save them in drafts. This helps me on those days or weeks when I may not feel like coming up with anything. Another big motivator is that I never want someone to start reading my blog or stumble upon an older post they like and then realize I haven’t posted in forever!! This happens to me all the time.
I am forever finding a great blog and then realizing the person rarely posts. I try to remind myself of this on days when I may not feel like writing. That being said, I do think it’s worth noting that while I do have the occasional longer post, most of my content on Your Friend, Brittany is shorter essay style posts, book recommendations, and lists. This isn’t to say that it’s not work to create that content because it is but it is to say that I’m not writing these lengthy essay posts every day. I have done that before, respect how challenging that can be, and I can understand how it can be hard to find motivation to keep those kinds of posts going daily on a blog.
In one year, what do you hope manifests from your blogging?
I’d like to have more followers and more interaction on posts. I’m starting to see more comments on my posts and that’s great but I would love to get my followers up too!
Name two of your favorite bloggers you follow.
I’m a big fan of Drea from The Drea Daily and Sarah from Venus Trapped in Mars. Drea’s site is so aesthetically pleasing and clean and simple. I really enjoy her content and think it’s a nice mix of so many different things. I also love her on Twitter. I am a huge fan of bloggers who actually tweet real things instead of just links to their posts or only blogging related topics. Sarah somehow turned a blog that seems to be geared towards teaching women about sports into a great all around lifestyle blog that also teaches women about sports. She’s one of the few people I’ve seen who can do the whole sponsored posts thing the right way. Just like Drea, she’s also great on Twitter too. I find both ladies to be incredibly authentic on their blogs and Twitter as well as fun to interact with on social media.
What legacy do you want to leave behind for others to know about you?
You know, I’ve never really thought of this in terms of blogging. Truthfully, I’m really only concerned with what my family and friends know/think about me but I will say that I hope anyone who visits my blog knows that I’m authentic. I think that may be a downfall of mine should I ever try to turn this blog into some big time, fancy, proper money making blog. I just don’t know how to be anything other than me and I personally think that’s a great thing but in a society where image is everything I imagine that my occasional potty mouth and sometimes controversial opinions may be off putting to some; still, authenticity over everything. Also, if I can add one thing, I repeat this so many times on my blog and tell anyone who will listen because it took me years to realize it but I’d like for everyone to know and truly understand that your thoughts shape your reality; this is such an important thing to learn.
Upcoming projects or events?
Nothing blog related. I’m still in the baby stages of this blog so I’m just working on growing it and seeing where it’s at once I get to the one year mark. Personally I’m in the final stages of wedding planning and getting married in September so I’m kind of focused on that.
We send well wishes out to Brittany for her special day quickly approaching and look forward to the beautiful wedding photos we are sure are to come! To keep up with Brit via social media follow her:
